I took a little break from my near-constant TD work to draw other things today! Just sketch and do whatever. LOOKS LIKE IT TURNED OUT TO BE 100% GAME COLLAB STUFF OF ET CETERA FOR sfemonster. The jerk.

done over the course of listening to several Jethro Tull concept albumsCollapse )

That was a goddamn novel, yikes. GOOD TO GET IT OUT OF MY BRAIN, I GUESS. EDIT: Making it public, why not. May keep most of my Game Collab posts public.

sfemonster ain't nowhere near being back from his trip, but I'm posting some brainstorming on my portion of the Game Collab just to have it up. Nothin' worse than forgetting ideas.

welcome to Et CeteraCollapse )

THAT IS ALL FOR NOW. More in the future! Exciting! The best part is, once this Collab is over I now have an official "home" for all my random ideas and crap that I like to draw but have no real place for in actual stories. WHY DRAW IT? BECAUSE I WANT TO.

Well, here we are, the last day of June. The last day of Doodle A Day! I can't believe I made it all the way through, hah. I started a couple days late, half-assed it a number of times and lost a little momentum near the end (most of my best sketches were near the beginning), but I still made it through! Yay me. Nice to know I can keep at it when I want.

The very last one! This dude is a cyborg character I came up with some years back for no good reason, other than the fact that robots and cyborgs are pretty cool. Considering making him an NPC in my game collab project. He's a member of The City's police force and wonders what Ssam is up to, or something like that. When I first created him he was named Kenneth but I've since come to know an actual guy named Kenneth, and it just feels weird now. May rename him.

And that's it! Thanks for stickin' the month of June out with me folks, and thanks to sfemonster for the idea! It was fun! And now I will no longer spam your friends page with daily images, haha.

'Sup guys I was out all day today doing stuff (like finally watching Star Trek) and am very tired so I am totally cheating today. This is the very DEFINITION of half-assing it.

Greatest drawing of the USS Enterprise ever. G'NIGHT.

The boyfriend is visiting and I'm busy and I can't draw for beans today so here are some half-assed hammerhead pups!

Asking about the bone would probably be a bad idea.

Y'all remember that Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within movie from a few years ago? This is still the best thing to come out of that.

Another tiny doodle today! The boyfriend arrives tomorrow for a two-day visit, so there's a 50-50 chance that the next few sketches will be super-late, like well-into-the-next-day late. They'll probably be quick tiny things as well.

An initial design doodle for another game collab character! This is Ruby Reynard. The grandchild of a super-famous rockstar, she had an unsettling upbringing and family/personal issues as a result. Trying to make her own way, she founded and operates the glammy theatre-club that is one of the primary locations in The City. There's a whole sub-plot with her place and a "mission" of sorts for Ssam there, and when he completes it Ruby thanks him by giving him a piece of jewelry made from one of the missing key-pieces he needs for his overall game quest. She's wiley and temperamental but thoughtful and rewards a job well-done. Ruby's probably got a whole lot of redesigning in her future, but she's supposed to have a '70s aesthetic to her, with maybe a pinch of '80s.

EVEN MORE CRAPPY TINY DOODLES. Man I just can't seem to sit down and get a lot of drawing done lately. At least I'm getting something out every day.

Two more absolutely ancient characters nobody's ever heard of that I'm resurrecting for the point-and-click game collab! Man these guys predate Sheana On The Internet, they're that old. The chick on the left is a four-armed alien bartender from a silly Early High School Era scifi story that was one of the first things I tried to stick Dave in, and the rabbit is from another Early High School Era fantasy story of mine that was supposed to be this BIG EPIC NOVEL that I was gonna write and be a famous young author for, hurr. The rabbit is delusional and absolutely convinced that he is a norse god.

Corniness of the stories aside I always had a soft spot for a lot of the characters and they stayed in the back of my mind. I figure The City would be a good home for them! Alien chick (who probably has some dumb name with no vowels) is a bartender (and bouncer when needed) at the big fancy theatre/club that is a main location in my game world. She is all about the '80s fashion. The rabbit's gonna be one of the dumb critters lurking in the little forest portion of the game world. He'll be guarding one or two Plesiosaur bones (for drunken_satyr's world) that he's convinced belong to the Midgard Serpent, and which'll probably cause terrible things to happen if anybody else gets their mitts on them. Since Ssam needs those bones, there'll be some sort of puzzle or item exchange with the dumb bunny to get them.

Not the greatest doodles today, as I'm still busy. Got a power supply to install. Again. Still managed a little, though.

SO I WAS TALKIN' WITH sfemonster, and we were thinkin' there may be a way for our two game worlds in the collab to meet at the borders. There's a cliff at one edge of his forest, and if you manage to scale it you find yourself in the forest of my world. CLEVER. We brainstormed a little, and I was thinking that maybe I have this huge, sentient tree at the top edge of the cliff on my side, whose roots go all the way down to the bottom on Sfe's side. There's a whole lot of roots and they curve in and out of the cliff's face, many of them looping around in such a way that they make for climbable steps up the side. The sentient tree is an asshole, though, and will move them around and knock you off if you try to climb his roots. Only way to do this is to find some sort of item to jab into him at the very bottom and make the tree fall asleep long enough for you to scale up. IT IS ALL UP IN THE AIR AT THE MOMENT.

And at the bottom there's Dave pretending to be a lizard. He's a little rubbery and can extend/contract his eyestalks kinda like a snail, so when necessary he'll do his best reptile impression. It usually works, and when slightly brighter people ask why the hell he's all fuzzy the Team'll say he's a very rare furred lizard of some species name I'll make up later.

Hand's feeling a little better today! Though it still hurts again after a little while, so still not as productive as I'd like. Doing things in fits and spurts. GOTTA KEEP ON IT.

Today's doodle is TD's Sonya Surecan's older brother Stanuel! As it's been pretty much forever and a day since I last drew the dorky wet blanket. You'd think somebody with a ponytail would be a little cooler. But no, from his clothes to his personality he is as sensible and respectable as the day is long. I wonder how long it'll be before he finally starts to crack.

And a little scribble of Stan & Sonya when they were kids, 'cos why not! Couple of adorable little coke bottle-wearin' frecklefaces, I tell you what. Sonya got the lion's share of curiousity and personality (and freckles), though.

Man, what did I do to my hand yesterday that made it so strained? It actually hurts to draw a bit. Doing a bunch of housework today certainly didn't help. Now that I've done my doodle I'm giving my hands a break. Hopefully they'll be in proper drawing shape again by tomorrow. I'VE GOT COMICS TO INK.

THIS IS NOT WHO YOU THINK IT IS. This fellow's name is Jhett Jherkin! He's one of my characters for sfemonster's Game Collab project, one of the two "guides"/party members for Ssam in my world.

Jhett is ALMOST-BUT-NOT-QUITE an AU Lucy. For one thing he's a great deal more even-tempered and decent, haha. The main theme of this collab is to take everything you like, including your own design cliches and characters and things, and mash 'em all together however you please. I really like Lucy and I really like a particular type of monster person I came up with a ways back, so I stuck 'em together and came up with Jhett. He is a Jherk, a race of dragon-y monster people who live alongside the humans and occasional aliens & cyborgs and crap in The City. Chitinous horns, tail tentacles and catfish whiskers, hooplah. He's a pretty good-sized monster dude and probably handy when you need heavy things lifted or something.

Jhett helps Ssam around simply because he is bored and kind of curious to see what happens next with this silly guy. Woo monster people.
